Quick Fix: Outlook 2013 Unable to Delete Primary Account
January 29, 2014 1 Comment
You may have seen an error like this on Outlook 2010 when trying to remove an obsolete account.
You may also be impressed to know the same thing occurs in Outlook 2013.
You may also have resigned yourself to creating a new profile, however that is not the only way!
The solution does involve editing the registry so you may decide a new profile is safer.
Anyway if you have other accounts already setup and creating a new profile seems like a real
ball ache nuisance, then here’s what you do.
Go into regedt32.exe
Find this Registry key:
Inside here is a value for each profile you have,
Inside of that key, is a ‘Metric ButtLoad’ of GUID Folders. Each pertaining to something i don’t know about.
What i do know is that some of these keys (more than one) will contain values relating to the account you wish to remove.
Find these keys and delete them.
You can then Remove the primary account from your Outlook profile.
Thanks to the article here www.slipstick.com/primary-account-removed-outlook-2010 for the pointer to the registry and this article on MSDN for the updated Outlook 2013 Registry path.
