First off, Kudos! Great post.

Any luck with Exchange 2013 CU1 on a Server 2012 member server?

I have been beating my head against a wall trying to get this done. Seeing this confirms it is possible now. Your notes here will be invaluable.

This is a little off topic, but wonder if you have ever seen the issue where I can get to the remote web access page for my server. Can access the shares fine... but when I try and connect to the computers whether the server or others on the network it fails with "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. The two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted. Try connecting again. If the problem continues contact your network administrator or technical support."

I have posted the issue in many places and haven't gotten any results. Seems like others are seeing the same issues. This doesn't work on or out of my local LAN. RDP does work on the local Lan without issues. Just not this way. Wonder if you have any ideas on troubleshooting this.

Hi, I recently run combofix on my computer...and noticed on the the log file.. it listed the file afd.sys as missing...later on..I could not connect to the internet...after alot of struggle...i did a search for the afd.sys file on drive C: and found the file quarantined by Qoobox and saved under the folder: C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and renamed to afd.sys.vir.....(Qoobox is the malware remover combofix uses..and its folder plus the combofix log file is automatically saved directly under drive C:) so i renamed the file back to afd.sys copied it and pasted it on C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers..after rebooting I successfully connected to the internet.

Ha Ha. Good post, Robert. Had a client do this to me last week, so still fresh in the memory. Make sure your client knows which email client they're using. Couldn't remote to his PC, so talked him through it over the phone. Told me he was using Word 2007 and Outlook 2007, but struggled for over nearly an hour trying to find the 'content.outlook' folder or registry settings. When I asked are you sure you're using Outlook he told me, er, yes, er Outlook Windows Mail on Windows 7! Arrgh! No wonder there were no Outlook reg settings! Quickly found the relevant temp folder for Windows Mail attachments - it's the content.ie5 folder if anyone's interested!

Moral of the story. Ask the client which email client they use, then ask them again, then ask them again, then ask them to spell the name shown on the shortcut to the email client they use. :)

So some more troubleshooting. I'm getting connections now, but I can't access the name of my Windows 2012 Essentials server. I can access it by going to the name \\directaccess, but not by it's actual name, crossfire. As soon as I defined other records in DNS for the devices on my network I could access them. On my DirectAccess client, if I modify the hosts. file in \windows\system32\drivers\etc and add the IPv6 address and the server's name I can access it. The name in DNS is defined by it's IPv4 and IPv6 address, yet I don't understand why I don't get resolution to the server.
